The flounder (platichthys flesus) is a flatfish that may migrate several hundred kilometres upriver in its search for food. But the fish return to the sea in order to reproduce.
There were times in the past when water pollution caused them to disappear from our waters completely.
In the Rhine region today, the species is again frequently met with. It also migrates up the Rhine tributaries.
