Like the allis shad, the twaite shad (alosa fallax) is a species of herring that migrates upriver in order to spawn. By contrast with the allis shad, this smaller related species however generally only comes as far as the lower reaches of the rivers (the bream region). In the Rhine delta in the Netherlands and the Lower Weser there are still populations of twaite shad found today.
